Julia leads CAO’s Advisory Function and is CAO’s main contact point related to threats and reprisals in CAO cases. Since joining CAO in 2009, Julia has handled complex, multi-stakeholder dispute resolution processes in diverse sectors and regions, addressing issues ranging from labor disputes to conflict over land, water, and impacts on Indigenous Peoples. Before joining CAO, Julia was a senior sustainability risk manager at Swiss Reinsurance Company, helping to develop sustainability risk management policies. Previously, she was part of the World Bank Group Extractive Industries Review team and worked for IFC in the area of environmental and social standards and development impact measurement. Julia is a German national and a CEDR accredited mediator. She holds an M.A. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a M.A. Joint Honours in Politics and Economics from the University of Edinburgh.
