CAO Releases Statement on IFC/MIGA Consultation Draft Approach to Remedial Action

02 Mar 2023

WASHINGTON, Mar. 2, 2023—CAO has issued a statement on IFC/MIGA’s proposed Approach to Remedial Action. The approach is expected to guide IFC/MIGA’s process in addressing issues of harm and improving the overall development impact of the institution. It will direct institutional responses to complaints against projects and programs globally.

The robustness of the approach to remedy will be a significant factor in determining the effectiveness of IFC/MIGA accountability systems. Due to this, the final approach is expected to ensure policy coherence across the IFC/MIGA Sustainability Frameworks, the CAO policy, and the Remedy approach paper in a way that enables risk management and accountability systems to lead to effective remedy for affected communities.

CAO appreciates IFC/MIGA’s commitment to meaningful engagement with stakeholders. Respectful processes can help to restore dignity that may have been lost when harm occurs. We welcome all efforts to enhance accountability and remedy for project-affected communities and encourage stakeholders to get involved in these important public consultations and provide input on this critical issue.
